Getting started with Shared Hosting
This article is to explain the steps necessary to help you get started with your new SimpleSonic shared hosting account quickly and easily.
We'll cover the basics and the steps you will need to take to get your website online with an easy to follow checklist.
Getting started with Shared Hosting Checklist:
[ ] Step 1 - Your Domain Name: Registration / Transfer / Nameserver Update
Domain Registration
If you registered a new domain with SimpleSonic, it has already been configured to use with your hosting account, so you can skip this step.
Domain Transfer
If you chose to transfer your domain name to us (making us your domain registrar), you will need to update the nameservers for your domain to the nameservers for your SimpleSonic account stated in the account information email we sent you upon setup.
Updating the nameservers for a domain you registered/transferred to with/to us can be easily done from our client area:
Domains --> My Domains --> Click the checkbox for the domain --> Click the Manage Nameservers button.
From there you can enter the nameservers and click Save.
Nameserver Update
If you chose to update your domain's nameservers only, you can simply update the nameservers at your current domain registrar to the nameservers for your SimpleSonic account stated in the account information email we sent you upon signup.
Note: After updating your domain's nameservers at your domain registrar, you will need to allow time for DNS propagation, which can take as little as a few minutes or up to 24 hours.
[ ] Step 2 - Moving an existing website/account from another provider
If you're moving from another provider, we can easily do that for you!
Simply submit a ticket to our support team and we will get your account/website transferred to our servers quickly and easily!
[ ] Step 3 - Starting with a new website
If you're transferring your account/website from another host, you can skip this step.
If your website and/or domain is new and you are starting from scratch, this is for you!
You have several options to start your new website depending on your skillset and expectations.
A few available options are:
Softaculous Apps Installer
Softaculous is and auto installer that has a large amount of apps and scripts to fit everyone's needs.
The auto installer is great for beginners with no HTML experience to allow you to point and click and easily create a new blog, forum and much more!
You can find Softaculous Apps Installer in your control panel.
For cPanel, it is located in the Software menu and for DirectAdmin it is located in the Extra Features menu
WordPress
WordPress is a good tool for both beginners and advanced users that allows you more granular control over your website using themes and plugins.
You can easily install WordPress using WP Toolkit in cPanel or from the Softaculous autoinstaller in both cPanel and DirectAdmin.
Upload a website you have designed in HTML
If you have designed a website on your local computer and want to upload it to your SimpleSonic account, you can easily do that!
You can upload files using the File Manager found in both cPanel and DirectAdmin or use an FTP client such as FileZilla (free to download/use).
Your websites files should be placed in the public_html folder in your hosting account (this applies to both cPanel and DirectAdmin).
[ ] Step 4 - Creating a new email address
If you're transferring your account/website from another host, you can skip this step.
Creating a new email address using your domain name is a simple task you can perform from Email Accounts in the Email menu in cPanel or the E-Mail Manager menu in DirectAdmin.
That's it!
After completing the above steps, your website should now be online for the world to see as well as a new email address to contact your friends and let them know about your new website!
